Change of opening hours

From April 2012, we will be closing on Wednesdays.

Although the Rochford Dress Agency has become busier every year, Wednesdays have always been a quiet day for us. Traditionally, many businesses in the area closed on Wednesdays for half day so maybe this is partly the reason.

We hope this doesn’t inconvenience our loyal customers too much.

We’ve recently taken delivery of some fantastic designer tops and dresses that were created as samples for various top high street outlets. The dress styles should appeal to our younger customers and have proved to be very popular over recent weeks.

Don’t miss this opportunity to purchase one of these stunning tops and dresses as they are very keenly priced. We will be getting more in from time to time so pay us a visit soon.

New website

Over the past couple of years, the Rochford Dress Agency website was a fixed website which was difficult to regularly update.

From November 2010, our website will be able to be updated directly by us at the Rochford Dress Agency and as a result we hope to be able to increase the updates on our website, so check back here more often!

Christmas, new stock arrives.

Christmas 2009 we introduce a range of new evening dresses to give our customers a wider selection of colours and sizes.

We also take on a small range of handmade jewellery, necklaces, earrings and bracelets, individual pieces are at very low prices.

We’re runners up in Rochford Dragons Den competition!

Rochford Dress Agency has been awarded runners up in the Rochford Dragons Den competition.

Organised by the local council, a dozen Rochford businesses entered the competition, putting forward a business plan as part of the entry.

We’re proud to say that after due consideration, we were awarded the runners up place by Rochford Council.

Fashion show fund raiser

Rochford Dress Agency organised a fashion show that took place on the 22nd May 2009, with all proceeds going towards Little Havens.

The show went ahead to a full house, showcasing the best of our dresses, outfit and hats. Other Rochford businesses supported the show and displayed their services and products at the show making it a very successful night all round.

We’d like to say a special thanks to all the models, stylists, make up artists, photographers, friends and family who gave up their time to help make this a success.

Two sisters have followed the Victor Kiam mantra while shopping for a dress – ‘they liked it so much, they bought the company’.

Elaine Thraves, 65, and Janette Watts, 63, decided to add some excitement into their lives by buying The Dress Agency, in Rochford.

The pair had gone into the dress shop looking for an evening gown to wear on a cruise – and walked out the door with the business.

While in the changing rooms, they overheard the previous owner mention she could no longer continue running her business and wanted to sell.

That was the moment alarm bells rung and the duo bought the South Street company in November. The business sells pre-owned dresses at cheap prices.

Grandmother Elaine said “When we came out of the changing room we told the owner that we both wanted to buy the business.

We thought the concept of the shop was a brilliant idea and therefore had no hesitation in taking over.

“Running a dress agency is one way to give value to the surrounding community and help beat current times.

All of us are at bus pass age and we should really be considering taking things easy.

Renamed Rochford Dress Agency, the company now also offers a range of new garments, accessories and has a hire hat facility. There are also sample wedding dresses in stock.

Elaine and Janette plan to expand and may enter a ‘Dragons Den’ competition run by Rochford District Council for new businesses.

Mother of two Janette had previously retired following 18 years service with NatWest and RBS Banks.

She still helps out with her son-in-law’s business with some bookkeeping.

Hairdresser Elaine had previously owned Jamela Hairdressers, in Southend, and Greetings card shop in Leigh.

The grandmother of five currently assists her son in a greengrocery business on Leigh Broadway, working two days a week.
